About Orchard House
Orchard House is a residential care home in Seaham supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. We also offer respite stays. We run this as a household rather than a service with bedrooms attached. People choose how their rooms look, what they eat, when they get up and how much of the day they spend in company. Those choices are not an extra laid on top of the care. They are most of what makes a place worth living in, and they take consistent effort to protect when staff change and pressures build. Support is planned around what each person wants to be able to do rather than only around risk. Cooking, shopping, managing money, using the bus, getting to college, work or activities, and keeping up with family and friends. Where somebody needs a great deal of help, we still look hard for the parts they can take on themselves, because independence disappears quietly unless someone is watching for it. Communication and environment get real attention. We learn how each person tells us what they want, including those who use little or no speech, and we adjust to them rather than the reverse. Noise, lighting, predictability and having somewhere quiet to retreat to all shape how a day turns out. Respite stays give families a break and give the person staying somewhere settled and properly set up. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch to visit.
