About Elliott House
Elliott House is a residential care home in Peterlee, County Durham, and we support adults with learning disabilities, autistic people and adults living with mental ill health. Respite stays are available as well. We run a household rather than a unit. People here have their own rooms and their own belongings, and a real say over how the day goes. The staff team is kept consistent, because support from people who know you well is quite different from support from whoever happens to be on shift. Changes are explained in advance, the shape of the week holds, and we take sensory comfort seriously, since noise, light and busyness often decide whether a day goes smoothly. Support covers personal care, medication, meals, money and the practical business of running a home, and wherever we can we do things alongside people rather than for them. Independence is much easier to keep than to recover, so if somebody can manage a task with a prompt, we prompt rather than take over. For residents living with mental ill health, what we mostly offer is steadiness: a settled home, a team who do not judge, and a house that holds together when somebody has a difficult stretch. We are also interested in what people want beyond these walls. Work, college, hobbies, friendships and family all matter. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families and professionals are welcome to visit and ask us whatever they need to know.
