About Montrose Barn
We are Montrose Barn, a residential care home at St Agnes in Cornwall supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. We also offer respite stays for people who need reliable support for a short period, or where a family carer needs a planned break. This is somebody's home first and a care setting second, and we work hard to keep that order. People choose their own routines, decide how their room looks, help with cooking and shopping and take on as much of running the house as they want. Where somebody finds noise, change or crowding difficult, we shape the environment and the day around that instead of asking them to cope with ours. Our staff learn each person's way of communicating, whether that is speech, signing, pictures or gestures we come to know well, and they give people the time a real choice requires. Being in this part of Cornwall means beaches, coast paths and a village that people can be part of, and we support people to get out, to keep up interests and friendships, and to try things they have not done before if they want to. The Care Quality Commission most recently rated us outstanding overall. We are proud of that, though it belongs as much to the people who live here as to our team, and we treat it as a standard to hold rather than a finish line. Enquiries and visits are always welcome.
