About Restgarth Care Home
We are a residential care home in Looe, caring for older people including those living with dementia, and we also offer respite stays. We want to be straightforward with anyone reading this. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is inadequate. We are not going to present ourselves as something we are not, and we would far rather you heard it from us. The inspection identified real shortcomings and we accept them. We are working through a detailed improvement plan with the Care Quality Commission and our local authority, which covers staffing, training, record keeping and the way care is reviewed, and our progress is being formally monitored. Alongside that work, the daily business of the home continues. Our team supports people with personal care, medicines, mobility, meals and the practical parts of the day. For people living with dementia we focus on calm, familiar surroundings and on responding to the feeling behind what someone is trying to tell us. People keep their own possessions around them, choose their own routines where they can, and see family whenever they wish. Respite stays are available for those needing shorter periods of support. If you are considering the home for yourself or a relative, please come and see it, ask us direct questions about the inspection and what has changed since, and speak to families who already know us. We would rather be judged on that than on a description.
