About Penniston Barn

We are a residential home at Penniston Barn, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic people, including younger adults. Being out of town shapes the place. There is room to be outside, a slower pace than a busy street brings, and space for people to take themselves off when they want to, which suits several of those who live here very well. Everyone has their own room and their own things, and the week is worked out between the people who live here and the staff supporting them: what is cooked, when the shopping happens, who wants to go out and where to. Support is built around what each person wants to be able to do. For some that means a job, a college course or a regular volunteering day. For others it is keeping up with family, managing money with a hand from staff, learning to cook something new, or simply having people around who understand how they communicate and what unsettles them. Consistency counts for a great deal, particularly for autistic people, so we keep staffing as settled as we can and explain changes before they happen. Respite stays are available alongside longer places. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please come and visit and meet the people who live here.
