About Avenue House
Avenue House in Bristol is a residential care home for older people who need help with daily living, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. What we do is fairly simple and we try to do it well. Help with washing, dressing and getting about, given in a way that protects somebody's dignity and at their own pace. Medication managed properly. Three meals a day that people are glad to sit down to, cooked here, with real choice at every one. Warm, clean rooms that people make their own with their own furniture and photographs. Company when it is wanted and quiet when it is not. We keep an eye on health without turning the house into a clinic. If somebody seems off colour we act on it early, involve the surgery and the district nurses, and tell families what is going on rather than waiting for them to ask. Respite stays are a real part of what we do, whether to give a relative a holiday, to help somebody find their feet after a spell in hospital, or to let a person try us out before deciding anything permanent. Nobody should feel pushed into a decision. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated the home good overall. Anyone thinking about a move is welcome to come, have a cup of tea, and talk to the people who live here.
