About St Aidans
We are a residential home in Blackburn supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic people. What we are trying to run is a home, not a service with people living in it. That shows in ordinary things. People here have their own rooms arranged how they like them, come and go in a way that suits them, and have a real say in the running of the house, from the weekly shop to what happens at the weekend. Staff are there to support, not to manage somebody's day on their behalf. Support is built around what each person wants to be able to do. For some that is work, college or volunteering. For others it is about getting out regularly, keeping up with family and friends, managing money with help, cooking more for themselves, or having people around who understand how they communicate and what they find difficult. We take the long view, because progress here is usually gradual and the gains that matter are often ones nobody outside the household would notice. Consistency counts for a great deal, particularly for autistic people, so we keep staffing as settled as we can and explain changes before they happen. Respite stays are available alongside longer places. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. If you are looking for a place, please come and visit and meet the people who live here.
