About Strathfield Gardens
Strathfield Gardens is a residential care home in Barking, and we support adults with learning disabilities and autistic people. Respite stays are available as well, giving families a planned break in the knowledge that the person they care for is settled. We are a household rather than a facility. People here have their own rooms and their own belongings, and a real say over how the day goes. The staff team is kept deliberately consistent, because support from people who know you well is a wholly different thing from support from whoever happens to be on shift. Changes are explained in advance, the shape of the week holds, and we take sensory comfort seriously, since noise, light and busyness often decide whether a day goes smoothly. Support covers personal care, medication, meals, money and the practical business of running a home, and wherever we can we do things alongside people rather than for them. A skill used is a skill kept, and we are patient about that even when it takes longer. We are equally interested in what happens beyond the house. London has a great deal in it, and getting out to college, work, hobbies, friends and family is part of what we support rather than an afterthought. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families, social workers and anyone considering Strathfield Gardens are welcome to visit and ask us anything.
