About Holmwood Care Centre
Holmwood Care Centre is a nursing home in Kidderminster, Worcestershire. We care for older people and younger adults whose health needs require qualified nursing support, including residents living with dementia and residents with physical disabilities. Having nursing staff on duty at all hours is what allows us to look after people here through changes in health and through periods of illness, instead of a move elsewhere being the automatic answer. Medication, wounds and long term conditions are managed on site by a team who already know the resident, and that continuity usually matters more to families than any single clinical detail. We try not to let the clinical side crowd out the rest. Somebody who needs a great deal of physical help still wants a day worth having, so we ask each resident what a good one looks like and then attempt to arrange it: food they actually want, a way of getting outside, somewhere quiet when the lounge is busy, visitors at a convenient hour. For residents with restricted mobility, comfort, position and skin care are routine, as is the question of how a person gets about rather than only how they are moved. Where dementia is present, familiarity carries most of the weight. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission. You are welcome to visit, and to ask about staffing, about nights and about how we handle things when they go wrong.
