About Mahogany Care Home
Mahogany is a nursing home in Wigan. We care for older people and younger adults whose needs include nursing, including people with physical disabilities. Respite stays are part of what we do. Because nursing is provided here, nobody reaches a point of being too unwell to stay. That stability is worth more than it sounds, particularly to families who have already arranged one difficult move. Having younger residents alongside older ones means we plan individually rather than running one programme. Somebody in their forties who needs nursing care has not finished with life, and the worst thing a place like this can do is quietly treat them as a patient whose life is now their treatment. For residents with physical disabilities we plan the practical side around what a person can still do themselves rather than what is quickest for us. Independence surrendered for convenience is rarely returned. The clinical side is only part of a day. The rest is food people want, getting outside, prompt help and privacy. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Ask us who is on tonight and whether they know the people they are looking after.
