About Cedar Lodge
Cedar Lodge is a nursing home at Whitchurch on Thames. We care for older people and younger adults whose needs include nursing, including many living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are part of what we do. Nursing here is what makes staying possible. A condition that progresses is something we absorb rather than a reason to start looking elsewhere. The work we do deliberately is keeping the place domestic. Once a nursing home starts running to ward habits, residents stop being consulted about their own day, so mealtimes, fresh air, unhurried help and privacy are protected on purpose. Where a resident communicates differently, whether through sight, hearing or anything else, we settle that properly at the start and everybody uses the same approach consistently. We train staff properly and supervise them, and we would rather a new member of the team worked alongside somebody experienced for longer than felt awkward. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission, and we would rather state that plainly than write around the gap. Anybody considering us should visit unannounced, speak to residents and relatives, and ask us whatever they want.
