About Woodland Park

Woodland Park is a nursing home in Torquay. We care for older people and younger adults whose needs include nursing, including adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, and we offer respite stays. Having nursing knowledge in the building matters particularly for people with learning disabilities, whose physical health problems are too often put down to their disability rather than investigated. Somebody here watches for the health issue behind a change in behaviour instead of simply managing the behaviour, and the consequences of getting that wrong are well documented. The clinical side is only a part of the day. The rest is ordinary life, and we protect it: food people want, getting outside, help without a long wait, privacy, and being spoken to as an adult with a history. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather write that here than have a family come across it and wonder what else we chose not to mention. We accept what was found and we are working through it, and we will not claim in a paragraph that it is finished. Please visit without warning, talk to residents and relatives away from staff, and press us for specifics on what has changed.
