About Handford House Care Home
Handford House Care Home is a nursing home in Ipswich, Suffolk. We care for older people and for younger adults whose health needs mean that qualified nurses should be on hand throughout the day and night. Many of our residents live with dementia, often alongside physical illness or reduced mobility. Caring for both at once is skilled work. It means noticing pain that somebody can no longer describe, keeping the surroundings calm and familiar, and adjusting how we communicate as needs change rather than carrying on as before. Care is planned with residents and their families. Meals, sleep, privacy, company and the ordinary shape of the day sit in the plan alongside medication and observations, and we write down the small preferences so that good care does not depend on who happens to be on shift. We work closely with GPs, community nurses, therapists and hospital teams so that treatment is prompt and unnecessary moves are avoided. Respite stays are available for families needing a planned break and for people who require nursing support for a short period, including after a hospital admission. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Choosing a nursing home is rarely easy and is often decided at short notice. Please ring us or call in, and we will show you round and answer your questions plainly.
