About Britannia Lodge
Britannia Lodge is a nursing home in Westcliff on Sea. We care for older people and younger adults whose needs include nursing, and we support people managing mental health conditions. Respite stays are part of what we do. Because nursing is provided here, nobody reaches a point of being too unwell to stay. That matters to residents and to families who have already arranged one difficult move. Much of our work is with people for whom mental ill health and physical health needs come together, and that combination is often handled badly elsewhere. Physical symptoms get attributed to a psychiatric diagnosis rather than investigated. Having nursing knowledge here means somebody is looking for the physical cause rather than assuming. The clinical side is only part of a day. The rest is ordinary life: food people want, getting outside, prompt help, privacy, and being treated as somebody with a history rather than a set of conditions. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking residents what we should be doing differently, and we take the uncomfortable answers more seriously than the kind ones.
