About Northlands House Care Home
We are Northlands House Care Home, a nursing home in Southampton. We care for older people and for younger adults who need nursing support, and we keep places available for respite stays as well as for people moving in permanently. Nursing cover here runs through the day and the night, which is what allows us to support people whose health needs are significant or changeable. Alongside that we support adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, and people living with a physical disability. Those are quite different kinds of need, and we do not pretend one approach covers them all. What we do instead is spend real time at the assessment stage working out how a person communicates, what they can do for themselves, what they find difficult and what they simply do not want anyone else doing for them. That last point matters more than people expect. A lot of the frustration in residential settings comes from help being given where it was not wanted. We try to be careful about it, and to keep asking rather than assuming that what suited someone in March still suits them in October. Families are welcome here and we would always rather hear a concern early than find out about it later. If a relative wants to be involved in reviews and planning, there is a place for them. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
