About Ernstell House
Ernstell House is a nursing home in Plymouth. We provide nursing care for older people and younger adults, and we support people living with dementia, people with a physical disability, people with a visual or hearing impairment and people managing a mental health condition. We take respite stays as well as permanent admissions. Recruiting and keeping good staff is the foundation of everything else we claim to do, and we would rather be judged on that than on the decor. Nurses and care staff who stay learn the people they work with properly, spot changes early and handle difficult moments calmly. A home with a revolving door of agency workers cannot do any of that, however smart the entrance hall looks. Our clinical work covers medication, wound and skin care, nutrition, pain and mobility, with GPs and community teams involved as needed. Because there are nurses here at all hours, a lot of what would otherwise become a hospital admission is dealt with in the person's own room. We also do a good deal of end of life care, and we try to do it properly: pain managed, family welcome at any hour, and the person's wishes written down while they can still tell us. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Visitors are welcome to come and see us.
