About Henshaws Specialist College
Henshaws Specialist College in Harrogate supports younger adults with a learning disability, autistic young people, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment, with nursing care available alongside everything else we do. What we are really about is possibility. The young people who come to us are at the stage of life where things are decided, what they can do, where they might live, how much of their own life they will run. Our job is to widen that rather than narrow it. That means the right support, the right equipment and the right environment so somebody can find their own way, communicate in the way that works for them, and build practical skills that carry over into adult life. Having nursing care available means that health needs, including complex ones, do not have to limit what is possible or force somebody to go elsewhere. We also offer respite, which can give families a rest and give a young person a change of scene with support they can rely on. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. We keep our own checks going between inspections, because standards are held in ordinary weeks rather than on inspection days. If you are looking at options for a young person in your family, please get in touch and come and see us.
