About Princes Court
Princes Court is a nursing home in North Shields. We care for older people and younger adults whose needs include nursing, including many living with dementia and people with physical disabilities, and we offer respite stays. Having nurses here means complex health needs are met in the building rather than becoming a reason to move somebody again. Repeated moves are hard on anybody and hardest on a person living with dementia, for whom familiar faces are doing real work. We are careful not to let the clinical side set the tone. Once a nursing home starts running to ward habits, residents stop being consulted about their own day and relatives begin behaving like hospital visitors, so we guard mealtimes, fresh air and unhurried help on purpose. Something else we take seriously is telling families when health changes rather than waiting for the next visit. A short phone call is nearly always better than a surprise. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We would rather be honest about a difficult week than tidy it out of the account.
