About Opal House
Opal House is a nursing home in Grimsby, caring for people across North East Lincolnshire whose needs call for qualified nursing as well as help with everyday life. Our residents include older people, people living with dementia, adults living with mental ill health, people with physical disabilities and younger adults. We offer respite stays too. Having registered nurses on duty at all hours is the practical heart of what we do. Medicines, wounds, continence, pressure care and the early signs of infection are dealt with here, by people who already know the resident, instead of through a long wait and a disorientating trip to hospital. For anyone living with dementia, avoiding that upheaval is often the single kindest decision available. We also take the view that being safely cared for is not the same as having a good day. A resident can be clinically well managed and still have nothing to look forward to, and we treat that as a shortcoming rather than an acceptable outcome. Visitors are welcome at sensible hours and beyond them when it matters. Respite care is available after illness or surgery and for family carers who need a genuine rest. We do not currently hold an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission. We would encourage you to come and see the home at an ordinary time of day, talk to residents and relatives, and ask us the awkward questions.
