About Heather House Care Home
Heather House Care Home is a nursing home in Liverpool, providing nursing care for older people, including people living with dementia and people who have a physical disability. Having qualified nurses on site at every hour is what allows us to look after people whose health needs are substantial and liable to change. Medication, wound care, careful attention to nutrition, pain and skin, and the close monitoring that catches deterioration early are the ordinary content of our days rather than exceptional events. We would far rather spot a problem on a Tuesday afternoon than deal with a crisis on a Saturday night. Good nursing is the foundation and not the purpose. The purpose is that somebody carries on being themselves while their health is looked after. So we ask before we act, we keep personal care private, and we make visitors welcome at awkward hours rather than merely permitted. For residents with a physical disability, the right equipment and staff who know each individual's preferred way of transferring mean that getting out of a room is never a question of staff convenience. Being left in a room because moving somebody is slow work is the sort of small neglect that quietly shrinks a life. With dementia we rely on familiar faces and an unhurried pace, and relatives usually hold the detail that settles a difficult hour. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. Come and see us and speak to the nurses on duty.

More about the care at Heather House Care Home
Nursing Care at Heather House Care Home
Thirty beds and a nursing registration mean qualified nurses on site at every hour in this Liverpool home. The work that follows is medication, wound care, careful attention to nutrition, pain and skin, and monitoring close enough to catch deterioration early. The home says it would far rather deal with a problem on a Tuesday afternoon than a crisis at the weekend, which is the honest case for nursing care. Where nursing need is assessed, the NHS pays about £235 a week towards it under NHS Funded Nursing Care. Ask whether that assessment has been made and what the balance would be against local fees of £1000 to £1300.
Dementia Care at Heather House Care Home
No inspection has yet taken place here, so the dementia registration is most of what the public record offers a family. What good dementia care needs is well understood: a routine that does not shift, staff a resident recognises, and a layout calm enough that walking about is not treated as a problem. Because the registration covers nursing, care can usually continue as the condition advances rather than forcing another move. The home does not describe its dementia training, so ask about it directly. Ask how a frightened resident is settled late in the day. Ask how staff are allocated so familiar faces keep appearing.
Older Person Care at Heather House Care Home
Visitors welcome at awkward hours rather than merely permitted is this home's own formulation, and it is a reasonable thing to test. For an older resident the day is otherwise made of help with washing and dressing, medication given properly, meals, and company that does not have to be requested. Heather House Care Home says it asks before it acts and keeps personal care private, which are better signs than any photograph. The public record says nothing about how nights are covered in Liverpool. Ask how many staff are on duty after midnight and how many of them are nurses. Ask who would ring a relative if a resident became unwell.
Physical Disability at Heather House Care Home
Moving somebody is slow work, and being left in a room because of that is the small neglect this home says it will not allow. Against it the home sets the right equipment and staff who know each individual's preferred way of transferring. Ask what hoists and bathing facilities are in use, and who reassesses when a resident's mobility changes.
