About Harrier Lodge
We are a nursing home in Whitstable, caring for people whose needs require qualified nursing alongside help with daily living. We look after older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia, people with mental health conditions and people with physical disabilities. Having registered nurses on duty means that medication, pain, wounds, continence and the difficulties people have with eating, drinking and moving are managed properly and without waiting, and that a change in somebody's health is picked up early rather than late. Necessary as that work is, it is not the whole of a life, so we try to make sure people still choose when they get up, what they wear, what they would like to eat and who they want beside them. Nursing care for a person living with dementia asks for patience above everything else. We take time to learn about somebody's history, work, music and habits and the things that comfort or unsettle them, because that knowledge does more good than any procedure when a person is frightened or disorientated. We work closely with general practitioners, community teams, therapists and hospital staff, keep families properly informed, and where someone is nearing the end of life we concentrate on comfort, dignity and the company of those they love. Respite stays are available too. Please come and see us and ask whatever you need to.
