About Beechcare Incorporating the Peter Gidney Neurological Centre
Beechcare, incorporating the Peter Gidney Neurological Centre, is a nursing home in Dartford, Kent. We care for older people whose needs go beyond residential care, for younger adults living with neurological conditions and physical disabilities, and for people living with dementia. Respite stays are available when a family carer needs a break or cover. Neurological care is a substantial part of what we do, and it is demanding work. Conditions such as acquired brain injury, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's affect movement, communication, memory and mood in combinations that are different in every person, so a standard approach is no use. We plan care with the person and their family, work closely with therapists, specialist consultants and community teams, and pay close attention to positioning, equipment, nutrition and communication. Registered nurses are on duty at all hours, so medication is managed closely, wound care and clinical needs are met on site, and a change in somebody's condition is picked up early by staff who know them. For younger adults in particular, we take seriously that nobody expects to live in a nursing home. Privacy, independence, dignity and holding on to interests and relationships get proper attention here rather than a mention in a brochure. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families are welcome at any reasonable hour, and we would much rather be asked difficult questions than have relatives worry quietly. Ring us if you would like to visit.
