About Intermediate Care Unit
Ledbury Intermediate Care Unit provides nursing care for older people in Ledbury, with a particular focus on short stays that help somebody get back on their feet. Most people who come to us are not moving in permanently. They arrive after a spell in hospital, or after an illness or a fall, at the point where they are no longer in need of a hospital bed but are not yet ready to manage at home. That gap is where a great deal goes wrong for older people, and our job is to fill it properly. What that means in practice is nursing care on site at all hours, so health needs are dealt with by people who know the person, alongside steady encouragement to do things independently again. Confidence is often what has taken the worst knock, and it comes back through ordinary daily activity rather than through being looked after. We try to help enough and no more. Going home is the aim, and we work towards it from the first day, with the person themselves and with their family where they want them involved. We would rather be honest early if it is not going to be achievable than let somebody find out late. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. If you would like to know more about how a stay here works, do get in touch.
