About Woodpeckers
Woodpeckers is a nursing home in Brockenhurst, in the New Forest. We care for older people and younger adults who need skilled nursing, for people living with dementia and for adults with physical disabilities, and we take respite bookings. Having qualified nurses on duty at all hours means we can look after people whose health needs are considerable and usually manage a period of illness here rather than through repeated hospital admissions. Our care staff work alongside the nursing team and know the people living here well enough to notice when somebody is not their usual self long before it becomes urgent. We put as much effort into keeping this somewhere people live. Rooms are people's own, filled with their own furniture and photographs. The day has a shape without being a timetable, there is company for those who want it and quiet for those who do not, and the forest on the doorstep gets used rather than merely admired through a window. For people living with dementia we keep surroundings calm and familiar, learn about earlier lives so conversation has somewhere to go, and train staff to work with how somebody experiences the world rather than correcting them. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us outstanding overall. We are genuinely proud of it, and clear that it has to be earned again every single day. Families are welcome.
