About Forest Court Care Home

Forest Court Care Home is a nursing home in Mitcheldean in Gloucestershire. We care for older people and younger adults who need nursing support, including people living with dementia and people managing mental health conditions, and we take respite bookings too. Because we have qualified nurses on site at all hours, we can look after people whose health is genuinely complicated and keep looking after them when things change, rather than moving somebody on at the point they most need familiarity. Wounds, pain, continence, nutrition, medication and mobility can all be managed properly here, and a good deal that would otherwise mean a hospital trip does not have to be one. We are conscious, though, that clinical care done thoughtlessly turns a person into a schedule. So we work at the ordinary things. People decide when they get up, what they wear, what they eat and how the day goes. We knock, we explain what we are about to do, and we wait for an answer. Dementia needs a familiar rhythm more than anything else, so we keep the day recognisable and avoid surprising anybody. When somebody is distressed there is almost always a cause, and finding it is more useful than settling them. Families generally know what works, and we want to be told. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. We are pleased with that and we keep asking residents and relatives where we are getting it wrong.
