About Briarwood
Briarwood is a nursing home in Blaydon on Tyne. Because we have registered nurses on site around the clock, we are able to support people whose health needs are complex, including those who would otherwise face repeated hospital admissions or a move to somewhere less familiar. We support older people needing nursing care, people living with dementia and adults living with mental health needs, and we also support younger adults whose care needs have arrived earlier in life than anyone expected. That last group is often poorly served, so we make a point of planning their support around the life they want rather than around the average age of the building. People living with a physical disability are supported with careful attention to positioning, equipment, mobility and the small practical things that decide whether a day is comfortable or exhausting. Our dementia care is based on knowing people well. We keep the day predictable, we keep familiar staff with familiar residents, and we take our lead from the person in front of us. Respite stays are available, including short recovery stays after hospital. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. We would encourage anyone considering Briarwood to come and see it. Visit at a normal time on a normal day, ask whatever you need to ask and judge us on what you find.
