About Lanercost House - Carlyle Suite
We are a nursing home at Lanercost House in Carlisle. We support older people and younger adults whose needs include nursing care, including many living with dementia, and we offer respite stays. We can meet nursing needs here, and that means continuity. A person is not asked to start again somewhere new because their condition has moved on. We are careful that clinical care does not set the tone. Nursing is part of a day here, not the whole of it, and the rest is meals, company, privacy and getting outside. For residents living with dementia we protect routine, keep surroundings familiar, and ask relatives for the details that let us understand what somebody means. Laundry, glasses, hearing aids and dentures matter more than they sound. Losing them is a common and quietly serious failure in care homes. We think about how the place sounds and smells, because both tell a visitor and a resident a great deal about how it is being run. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. We do not think a rating can tell you whether somebody will be happy, so please come and look.
