About Brandon Lodge Care Home
We are Brandon Lodge Care Home, a nursing home in Durham. We look after older people and younger adults who need nursing care, including people living with dementia, people with a mental health condition and people with a physical disability, and we also take respite admissions. Having nurses on site at all hours is what makes that range possible. It means someone whose condition is unstable does not have to move, and it means clinical decisions get made by people who know the person rather than by whoever happens to be available. Where dementia and a mental health condition sit alongside one another, which happens more often than the categories suggest, we try to look at the whole person instead of treating each label in isolation. Much of the work is about consistency. Familiar faces, a routine that holds, an environment that does not change under someone's feet. Those things sound small written down and they are the difference between a settled day and a difficult one. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are not going to talk around that. There is an improvement plan in place, we know what the inspection found, and we would rather discuss it plainly with a family weighing up a placement than have them discover it elsewhere.
