About Windmill Court
Windmill Court is a nursing home in Wadebridge, providing nursing care for older people and younger adults across this part of Cornwall, including people living with a physical disability. Having qualified nurses on site at every hour is what allows us to look after people whose health needs are substantial and liable to change. Medication, wound care, careful attention to nutrition, pain and skin, and the close monitoring that catches deterioration early are the ordinary content of our days. In a rural part of the country, where a hospital trip is a longer undertaking, being able to manage health needs properly here matters a great deal. Good nursing is the foundation and not the purpose. The purpose is that somebody carries on being themselves while their health is looked after. So we ask before we act, we keep personal care private, we make visitors welcome at awkward hours, and we take the trouble to learn what a particular person would actually like to do with an afternoon. Where a physical disability is part of the picture, our attention goes to movement and independence. The right equipment, accessible bathrooms, and staff who know how each person wants to be helped to transfer. Being left in a room because getting somebody out of it is slow work is the sort of small neglect that quietly shrinks a life, and it is not acceptable here. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. Come and see us and speak to the nurses on duty.

More about the care at Windmill Court
Nursing Care at Windmill Court
A hospital trip from this part of Cornwall is a longer undertaking, which is the home's own reason for being able to manage health needs properly on site. Qualified nurses are here at every hour, covering medication, wound care, attention to nutrition, pain and skin, and the monitoring that catches deterioration early. That suits people whose health is substantial and liable to change rather than those who simply need help with daily tasks. Where nursing need is assessed and agreed, the NHS pays about £235 a week towards that part of the fee under NHS Funded Nursing Care. Ask whether that assessment has been done and what remains payable each week.
Older Person Care at Windmill Court
Thirty four people may live at Windmill Court, which makes it small by the standards of most nursing homes. For an older resident that usually shows in the ordinary business of the day: help with washing and dressing at a bearable pace, medication given properly, meals, and company when it is wanted rather than when it is timetabled. The home says it asks before it acts, keeps personal care private and welcomes visitors at awkward hours. None of that answers the question of how a night in Wadebridge is covered. Ask how many staff are awake overnight and how many of them are nurses. Ask who makes the call to a relative when something changes.
Younger Adults at Windmill Court
Funding here involves Cornwall, which usually pays about £900 to £1100 a week against typical South West fees of £1250 to £1600. An adult under sixty five in a home of thirty four will be living among much older residents. Ask what a younger person's week would hold, whether getting out of Wadebridge is practical, and who else of a similar age is there.
Physical Disability at Windmill Court
Accessible bathrooms, the right equipment and staff who know how each person wants to be helped to transfer are where this home says its attention goes. Movement and independence are the point, since being stuck in a chair until somebody is free is the usual failure. Ask what hoists and bathing equipment are in use, and who reassesses when mobility changes.
