About Penhellis Nursing Home
We are Penhellis Nursing Home in Helston, Cornwall. We provide nursing care for older people, including those living with dementia, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment, and we also take respite stays. Because qualified nurses are here at every hour, a change in somebody's health is noticed by people who already know them and acted on without delay. It also means a resident does not have to move when their condition becomes more complicated, at exactly the point when a move is hardest, and that care at the end of life can be given here, among familiar faces, when that is what a person and their family want. Where dementia and a sensory impairment occur together, we check the simple explanation before the complicated one. A hearing aid that has stopped working accounts for a great deal that otherwise gets recorded as confusion, and a room somebody cannot make sense of will unsettle anyone. For residents with a physical disability the practical details matter most: enough time that a transfer is unhurried, equipment set up as it should be, and asking the person how they prefer it managed rather than assuming. The rest is ordinary living, which we work at protecting. Own routines, own belongings, meals worth sitting down to, and visitors who do not need to arrange it first. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
