About The Knolls Care Centre
The Knolls Care Centre is a nursing home in Leighton Buzzard in Central Bedfordshire. We care for older people and younger adults who need nursing support, including people living with dementia and people with physical disabilities, and we take respite bookings. With qualified nurses here at all hours, we can care for people whose needs are clinically real and go on caring for them as those needs change. Wound care, pain, continence, nutrition, medication and moving safely are all managed here, and a great deal that might otherwise involve hospital can be handled at home instead. For families, that continuity is often the thing they value most. What we watch carefully is the risk that nursing turns somebody into a round of tasks. So the ordinary courtesies get as much attention as the clinical ones. People choose when they get up, what they wear, what is on their plate and how they spend the afternoon. We knock, we explain, and we wait to be told it is all right to go ahead. Dementia asks for a familiar day above all else. We keep things recognisable, we avoid surprises, and when somebody is unsettled we go looking for the reason instead of trying to smooth it over. Relatives often hold the key and we want to hear from them. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall, and we keep asking residents and families what needs our attention.
