About Symonds House

Symonds House is a nursing home in Cambridge, caring for older people from across the city and the surrounding county. As a nursing home we have registered nurses on the team around the clock, which means we can look after people with substantial health needs and continue to do so as those needs change, rather than asking anyone to move again at a difficult time. We care for older people, including many living with dementia, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Our nursing work covers medication, wound care, continence support, help with eating and drinking, careful management of long term conditions and close attention to comfort and skin health. Much of it is quiet, detailed work that nobody sees, and it is what keeps people well. Dementia care here begins with the person rather than the condition. A resident's working life, their family, their habits and what has always settled them guide how we support them. When someone is distressed we look for the specific cause instead of reaching for a routine answer, and more often than not we find it. Relatives are part of daily life here rather than visitors to be managed, and we keep families honestly informed, particularly when someone's health is changing. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. Please come and see us and meet the nursing team.
