About The Burren

The Burren is a nursing home in Bristol. We care for older people whose health needs go beyond residential care, for younger adults living with conditions that require qualified nursing, for people with physical disabilities, and for people living with mental ill health alongside a physical condition. Respite stays are available as well. Registered nurses are on duty here at all hours. Medication is managed closely, wound care and conditions that fluctuate are handled on site, and a change in somebody's health is usually noticed early because the person noticing knows them. We work with GPs, district nurses, community mental health teams, therapists and hospital staff, and we keep asking when a resident needs something that is slow to arrive. Dementia care is a large part of our work, and we treat it as caring for a person with a history rather than managing a condition. Families hold most of that history and we ask for it early, because it is what allows us to understand distress somebody cannot put into words. For younger adults, we are conscious that nobody plans to live in a nursing home, so privacy, independence and holding on to friendships and interests get real attention here. We have not yet had an overall rating published by the Care Quality Commission, which we mention plainly rather than leaving you to look it up. Families are welcome at any reasonable hour. Ring us if you would like to visit.
