About Mortimer House

Mortimer House is in Bristol and we are registered for nursing care. We support people living with dementia, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, and people with a physical disability whose health needs require a nurse rather than a residential setting. Respite admissions are available alongside permanent places. That combination is not common, and it is usually the reason families find us. Somebody with a learning disability who also has significant health needs is too often moved between places that can manage one half of the picture but not both. Here the nursing is already in the building, so a person does not have to leave the people they know in order to get the care they need. Doing this well means refusing to let the clinical side take over the person. Somebody who needs a nurse still has views about food, music, clothes and company, and still deserves to be asked rather than told. We explain before we act, we slow down, and we check we have been understood rather than assuming. Support plans are written so the person has a chance of reading them. Qualified nurses are on duty at all hours, and the harder part of the job is noticing early when somebody is not themselves, which rests on continuity of staff. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Come and visit.
