About Verified Care

Verified Care York is a home care agency supporting people in their own homes across York and the surrounding area. We work with older people and younger adults, with people living with dementia, with people who have a learning disability, with autistic people, with people living with mental health needs and with people who have a physical disability. That breadth means we have to resist the temptation to work from a template. An older person who needs help getting up in the morning, an autistic adult who needs support to keep a tenancy going and someone recovering from a mental health crisis are not variations on a theme. We assess each person properly, we ask them what they want help with, and we write support around the answer. The practical work includes personal care, medication, meals, help moving safely about the home, support to get out and about, and the plain matter of being reliable company in a week that may hold very little else. For people living with dementia we keep the same carers going to the same homes, because familiarity achieves what explanation cannot. York has its own geography of narrow streets and awkward parking, and we plan rounds that are actually achievable so that visits happen when we promised. We have not yet received an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission. We are open about how we recruit, train and supervise, and we would rather you asked before deciding.

More about the care at Verified Care

Dementia Care at Verified Care

Familiarity achieves what explanation cannot, which is the single most useful thing to know about dementia support at home. Verified Care York is registered for dementia care and the method is consistent: the same carers to the same houses, a steady order to each visit, short clear sentences and no dispute about the date. Ask how risks around the cooker, the front door and medication are assessed in a particular property. Ask what a carer is instructed to do when a visit is refused. Ask how changes are reported to relatives and how quickly hours can be increased. Ask, finally, how the agency would say that home was no longer safe.

Home Care at Verified Care

An agency is engaged by the hour, which keeps control with the household but leaves the gaps between visits uncovered. Verified Care York is registered as a home care agency working across the city and the surrounding area, from a single short call to several longer ones each day. Regional rates of £25 to £30 an hour are the benchmark, with short calls, waking nights and bank holidays usually charged differently, so ask for the whole list. Ask the minimum visit length, how absence is covered and whether a relative can see that calls took place. Ask whether a council assessment could meet part of the cost. No rating has been published, so written policies and a frank conversation with the manager are your evidence.

Older Person Care at Verified Care

Reliable company can be as much of the job as personal care when a week holds very little else. Verified Care York in York is registered for older person care and visits people at home, helping with getting up, washing and dressing, medication, meals and moving safely about the house. Ask how long each visit is and whether there is time for anything beyond the tasks. Ask who covers mornings, evenings and weekends, and how narrow streets and awkward parking are allowed for in the rota. Ask whether the same carers attend, because spotting a decline depends on knowing somebody. Inspectors have not yet issued an overall rating, so references and a sample care plan are what you have. Rates across Yorkshire and Humberside generally run £25 to £30 an hour.

Mental Health at Verified Care

Recovery from a crisis rarely runs in a straight line, and support has to be steady through the dips. Verified Care York is registered for mental health and works alongside the teams already involved. Ask what training staff have, how a deterioration is escalated and who answers the phone outside office hours.

Younger Adults at Verified Care

Fitting support around a job or a course is a scheduling problem before it is a care problem. Verified Care York is registered for younger adults, so negotiate the timetable before anything else. Ask about early starts, late calls, weekend cover and how much notice a change needs.

Learning Disability and Autism at Verified Care

Resisting the template is the point: an autistic adult keeping a tenancy going needs nothing like the support an older person needs at breakfast. Verified Care York is registered for learning disability and autism, with help built around what a person asks for. Ask who commissions the package, how reviews work and how communication and sensory needs are recorded.

Physical Disability at Verified Care

What a house allows sets the limit on independence, and older properties in a city centre allow less than most. Verified Care York is registered for physical disability and supports personal care, transfers and safe movement indoors. Ask how the property is assessed, who arranges equipment and how carers are trained on the specific hoist or board in use.
