About Ashwood Care
Ashwood Care Leigh provides care and support to people in their own homes in Leigh and the surrounding parts of Wigan. We support older people, including many living with dementia, adults living with a mental health condition, people with a physical disability, those with a visual or hearing impairment, and younger adults who want support to manage day to day life. Most people would rather stay where they are, with their own things around them and their own routines intact. Our job is to make that workable for as long as it sensibly can be, and to be straight with families when things are getting harder. We start by asking what is genuinely difficult and what somebody still manages perfectly well on their own, because support works best when it builds on what is already there. From there we agree the visits and the tasks, which might cover help with washing and dressing, prompting and support with medication, meals and drinks, moving safely around the home, laundry, shopping and getting to appointments. Dementia support is a large part of our work. That means arriving calmly, keeping to routines that make sense to the person, never rushing anyone, and noticing the small changes that tell you something has shifted. We agree timings and keep to them, and we aim to send the same familiar faces to each household, because trust takes a long time to build and none at all to lose. If you would like to talk about support locally, please get in touch.
