About Chestnut Family
Chestnut Family supports adults with a learning disability and autistic adults to live in their own homes across Newbury and the surrounding parts of West Berkshire. Our starting point is that a home belongs to the person living in it, and that support belongs in the background of a life rather than at the centre of it. What we do varies a great deal from person to person. For some it is help with personal care, medication and the practical running of a household. For others it is about keeping a tenancy going, managing money, cooking, shopping, getting to work, college or a club, and staying in touch with the people who matter. Communication is something we take time over, because people express themselves in many different ways and it is our job to learn each person's way rather than expect them to learn ours. Routines are kept steady, changes are explained well in advance, and decisions are left where they belong. We do not currently hold an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission, and we prefer to say so plainly. If you are making a referral or looking into support for somebody, please get in touch and we will take it at whatever pace suits.
