About Avida Supported Living
We are Avida Supported Living, based in Birmingham and working across the surrounding area including parts of Warwickshire. We support adults with learning disabilities and autistic people, younger adults building a more independent life, and older people who need help at home. Supported living means something definite to us. The home belongs to the person. Our support fits around the life they want rather than the reverse. And our aim is always to help somebody do a thing rather than to do it for them, because skills that get used are skills that stay. In practice that might mean help with personal care and medication, or cooking, shopping, managing money and post, keeping a tenancy in order, or getting out to work, college, appointments and the places somebody actually wants to be. We plan it with the person, in their own words, alongside family and professionals where they want them involved, and we review it as things change. Consistency is what we work hardest at. The same staff wherever the rota allows, changes explained in advance rather than sprung on people, and routines that hold. For autistic people in particular that predictability is a need rather than a preference, and we take sensory comfort seriously for the same reason. We have not yet had an overall rating published by the Care Quality Commission, and we mention that plainly rather than leaving you to find it. If you are a family member or a professional weighing us up, ring us and we will give you a straight answer.
