About Community of Refugees from Vietnam - East
We are a community organisation in Tower Hamlets supporting Vietnamese people and their families in east London, and we provide care in people's own homes. We work mainly with older people, including those living with dementia, and with people who have physical disabilities. Language and culture are at the centre of what we do rather than an afterthought. Many of the people we visit came to this country as refugees and built their lives here, and in later years being cared for in your own language, with food you recognise and by someone who understands your family's customs, is not a small thing. It is often the difference between accepting help and refusing it. Practically, our work looks like most home care: help with washing, dressing and getting the day started, support with medication, meals prepared the way somebody actually eats, help getting out to appointments, and company for people who would otherwise be alone. We agree it with the person and their family and write it plainly. We also help people navigate health and social care systems that can be hard to deal with, and we stay in touch with GPs and community teams rather than leaving families to do it all. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please contact us if you would like to talk about support.
