The help we give ranges from a single short call to several visits a day. For many households it is the morning that matters most, getting somebody up, washed and dressed comfortably, making sure breakfast happens and medication is taken properly, and setting the day off in a decent frame of mind. For others the difficulty is the evening, or the meals, or the shopping, or simply having nobody to talk to from one day to the next. We try to keep our rounds local and our teams small so that the same carers go to the same homes. Familiarity is not a luxury in this work. It is what allows somebody to accept help without feeling that their privacy has been handed over to strangers, and it is what lets a carer notice that a person is quieter than usual, eating less than usual or unsteady on their feet. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission. We would rather say that plainly than dress it up. We are glad to explain how we recruit and train our staff, how we supervise visits and what we do when something goes wrong, and to answer any question you want to put to us before you decide.
