Our job is to give people enough support to carry on living where they want to live, without taking over their household or their decisions. We visit older people needing help with washing, dressing, meals, medication and keeping the house in order. We support adults who have a learning disability and autistic adults, where the work is usually about enabling somebody to run their own life rather than doing things for them. We also support people living with mental health conditions, people with a physical disability and people whose sight or hearing is impaired, along with younger adults needing help to live independently. Reliability is what families tell us matters most. A call booked for half past seven should happen at half past seven, and the carer at the door should be somebody the person recognises. We build our rotas around that and we let families know when something changes rather than leaving them to wonder. Support starts with a home visit and an unhurried conversation about what would genuinely help. The plan follows from that and gets reviewed as needs change.
