About Choose Your Care

Our name is meant literally. Too much home care is arranged around what a rota can accommodate rather than what a person wants, and the result is calls at the wrong hour, too short to do anything properly. We start instead by asking how somebody wants their day to run, what they can still manage themselves, where things go wrong and what would make the biggest difference. Then we build the support around that and put it in writing. In practice that means personal care, medication, meals, shopping, laundry and housework, help to get out to appointments and see people, and time spent in real company. For those living with dementia we keep the routine and the faces steady, which does more good than any clever approach. Our carers train before they work alone, are supervised in people's homes afterwards and are expected to raise anything worrying the same day. Our office answers the phone.
