We work alongside adults who have a learning disability, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and people with visual or hearing impairment, including younger adults. Our starting point is that support should widen what someone can do rather than take it over. Much of our work is about ordinary life. We support people to manage their own home, to cook, to shop, to handle appointments and correspondence, to take part in activities they enjoy and to keep up relationships that matter to them. Where personal care is needed we provide it with proper regard for privacy and dignity. Where someone wants to take on more for themselves, we step back at their pace and stay available. Communication is central to the work, so we take time to learn how each person expresses preferences and discomfort, and we adapt rather than expecting them to. Plans are written with the person, in their words, and reviewed when circumstances change. We do not yet hold an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission. We are registered with and regulated by them, and we are building the planning, training and oversight that a good rating properly requires. Anyone considering us is welcome to ask us difficult questions in the meantime.
