About Dementia Care & Support at Home
Our work is care at home across Manchester and Salford, helping people to stay in the houses and neighbourhoods they know rather than move somewhere unfamiliar. For most of the families who come to us, that is the whole point, and everything else we do follows from it. A great deal of our work is with people living with dementia. What we have learned is that the useful things are unglamorous: the same carers turning up, at times that make sense to the person, who know where the tea is kept and which chair is the right one. Familiarity prevents a lot of distress that no amount of skilled intervention can undo afterwards. We also support older people more generally, adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, and younger adults who need help at home. We work with people living with mental health needs, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment, adapting what we do and how we explain it so support is genuinely usable. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission. Rather than talk around that, we would ask you to judge us on how carefully we listen at the first conversation and on whether what happens afterwards matches what we said.
