Our view is that most people manage better in familiar surroundings, and our job is to make that practical for as long as it sensibly can be. We also work with people living with a physical disability, where the point is usually restoring practical independence rather than doing things for somebody, and with younger adults, whose expectations of support are often quite different from the standard picture of home care. Sending the same carers to the same people is something we plan for. It means nobody has to explain themselves every visit, and it means our team notice early when someone is eating less, sleeping badly or simply not themselves, which is often how a bigger problem is avoided. We have not yet received an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission, and we prefer to say so plainly. In the meantime, we would ask to be judged on the ordinary things, punctual visits, a phone that gets answered and honest answers when we cannot do something.
