We are a home care agency based in Ilford, supporting people in their own homes across Redbridge and the surrounding area. We visit older people, including many living with dementia, adults with mental health needs, people with physical disabilities and younger adults who need support with daily life. For some of the people we support that means a short morning call to help with getting up, washing and dressing, leaving the rest of the day their own. For others it means help with medication, meals and the running of a household, or several visits through the day where that is what makes staying at home realistic. We agree what is needed at the start, put it in writing plainly and change it when circumstances change. Continuity is the part of this work people notice most, so we try to keep the same small group of carers going to the same person. A familiar face at the door counts for a lot, and a carer who knows somebody well is the one who spots that they are not right today. Living with dementia at home takes patience from everybody involved, and we would much rather our carers had time to do things properly than hurry a visit to keep a rota happy.
