We provide care at home in Wetherby and the surrounding parts of Leeds. Our view is that staying at home should be a real choice rather than a hopeful one, and what makes it real is unremarkable: somebody reliable arriving when they said, who knows how this particular person likes things done. So we keep our rounds tight enough that carers are not rushing between calls, and we send the same small group of people to the same households. Where somebody has a sight or hearing impairment we agree at the beginning how we will announce ourselves and how we will communicate, and we hold to it. Where somebody is living with dementia we keep the routine and the surroundings as steady as we can, and we learn enough of their history for the conversation to make sense to us. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We would rather treat that as a baseline than a boast. We ask the people we visit and their families what we should be doing differently, and the useful answers are usually the small critical ones.
