Northwest Domiciliary Agency supports people in their own homes in Ormskirk and across Lancashire. We work with adults who have a learning disability, with autistic adults and with people managing mental health conditions. That is a deliberately narrow focus, and we think the narrowness is a strength. Supporting someone well at home is a different discipline from running a care setting, and doing one thing properly is better than doing everything adequately. Our role varies a great deal between the people we support. For some it is practical help with cooking, budgeting, appointments and getting about, so that living independently stays realistic. For others it is support with communication, or having somebody reliable present at the times of day that are consistently hard. We take time to learn how a person communicates when they are anxious, what their sensory needs are and what actually helps when a day starts to unravel, and we record that clearly so nobody is working from guesswork. Consistency matters more in this work than almost anywhere, so we keep the same small team going to the same person. We work alongside families, social workers and health colleagues and we speak up early when something is not working. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
