Nightingale Supported Communities provides care and support to people in their own homes in Nelson and the surrounding part of Lancashire. We work with older people and younger adults, with people living with dementia and with people who have physical disabilities. Our visits are shaped by the person. They may include help to wash and dress, support with medication, preparing meals, assistance with mobility and moving safely about the home, light household tasks and shopping, or company and support to get out to appointments and to see people. Some clients need a single short call each day and others need support several times over. Support is agreed with the person before anything begins. We ask what time they like to get up, what they want to eat, what they want help with and what they would far rather manage themselves, and we involve family and other professionals as far as the person wishes. The plan goes in writing and is reviewed when needs change. We keep the same carers calling on the same people wherever we can, because familiarity makes support easier to accept, particularly for someone living with dementia. We do not yet hold an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission. We are registered with and regulated by them, and we are building the planning, training and oversight that a good rating properly requires.
