We are a small home care provider based in Chorley, Lancashire, and we support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults in their own homes. Being small is not something we apologise for. It means the people we support are known by everybody on our team rather than by a file number, and it means we can hold consistency in a way that larger rotas struggle with. Supporting someone well in their own home asks for a particular kind of attention. We need to know how a person communicates, especially when they are anxious and words are harder to find. We need to know what their sensory needs are, what parts of the week are reliably difficult, and what helps when a day starts to go wrong. We learn that properly rather than guessing, and we record it clearly so that anyone supporting the person has the same understanding. Our role varies from practical help with cooking, budgeting and appointments through to being present at times of day that are hard. What does not vary is that we support people to do things rather than doing things to them. We work alongside families, social workers and health teams and we speak up when something is not working. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
